MLZ Art Dep & Wiener Art Foundation are pleased to present WITH A LITTLE HELP OF MY FRIENDS, a project shared between artists Anna Jermolaewa, Scott Clifford Evans, Manfred Grübl and Anastasia Jermolaewa.

The creation of the Austrian Pavilion at the Biennale in Venice, were Anna Jermolaewa represents Austria, tells the long story of a comparison of ideas and artistic practice, overall, that of sharing both their human and professional experiences. The show brings together some of the works of these four artists, many of which were created with mutual assistance, always supported by a shared sense of humor and fun.The exhibition which opens on July 13th at 6pm at the MLZ & WAF in via Roma 15 in Trieste, will last until the beginning of September

Anna Jermolaewa works primarily in the mediums of photography, video, and installation. Her main interest is the analysis of functional structures of society and social systems in everyday life. She continually focuses on the basic conditions of human existence and the nature of man, capturing the relationship between the individual and the masses, freedom and restriction, power and powerlessness, (especially around relationships and networks of hegemonic structures). Her works provide information about a world of failure, through conscious and unconscious fears, desires, and passions. The result is a reflection on individual and collective historical consciousness in the form of images that remain in the viewers’ mind. Through the visual telling of history and stories, she attempts to create places of remembrance. Anna Jermolaewa represents Austria at Biennale Arte 2024. She also had solo exhibtions in Rupertinum Salzburg, Austria, Schlossmuseum Linz, KUB, Bregenz, MAK Vienna, 21er Haus, Vienna, Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw, the Victoria Art Gallery, Samara, Camera Austria, Graz, Kunsthalle Krems, Institute of Contemporary Art, Sofia, Kunstverein Friedrichshafen, XL Gallery Moscow and Museum Moderner Kunst, Passau.

Anastasia Jermolaewa’s work connects various types of materials, utilizing casting techniques, often with ephemeral qualities, with psychological impulses and human vulnerability, as well as finding parallels between cooking and sculpture. Her practice involves olfactory materials, surfaces of organic matter - slowly evaporating or melting away under one’s wet touch - vulnerable materials that require care and intimacy.

Manfred Gruebl’s work represents a comprehensive concept of art. His multifaceted work comprises installation, performance, photography, video, sculpture and an expansion of all these mediums. Gruebl makes interventions in public space: he penetrates these with his art to thereby create the potentials for being creative in everyday life. He turns the recipients of his work into the performers of his art, which aims at reactions. The viewer, the state, society are all challenged into taking up a stance. For him art is a subjective all encompassing experience. Interaction and communication characterise his work – not static objects in space. He held exhibitions in Saatchi Gallery, Lincoln Center, Neue Nationalgalerie, Secession, Kunstraum Innsbruck, Secession Vienna, Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Serpentine Gallery and Venice Biennale.

Scott Clifford Evans (b.1979) is an artist, filmmaker, writer, and performer born in Salt Lake City, Utah, who lives and works in Vienna, Austria. His ongoing, episodic, art-trash-horror installation/film project, Murderkino (2019–) was the basis of Evans' exhibition "Murderkino" at Galerie Charim, Vienna, curated by Brigitte Huck. The first four episodes of Murderkinowere previewed at KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin in 2020. Evans’ debut feature-length film, The Demoniacs, premiered in 2023 at Breitenseer Lichtspiele in Vienna, Austria. Evans' video Manipulating Currency (2016) premiered at the One Work Gallery in Vienna and has shown in exhibitions in London, Berlin, Graz, and Ukraine.
